  • Amazing lake towns in the US

There’s something about lake towns that just makes them a very attractive place to live and visit. Maybe it’s the view of the clear waters of a lake not far from the suburbs or even the city center, the prospect of having a pleasant place for walks, sunbathing or swimming, or maybe the number of resorts that you can find in and around these towns.

Lake towns are great destinations for a summer holiday if you are too far from the coast, and they offer a larger variety of landscapes and possibly milder weather. For this summer, here are some amazing lake towns in the US that you can visit.

    Chelan, Washington

The town of Chelan, predictably located on the shores of Lake Chelan is a great destination if you feel like swimming, kayaking or fishing. The town was founded at the end of the 19th century, and although its history is quite long, it still manages to be comfortably small, yet sufficiently lively to attract tourists.

There are several nice inns on the shore of the lake, if you want to be closer to all the fun activities around there.

    Grand Marais, Minnesota

Grand Marais is a very small town on the shores of Lake Superior, located in a double harbor outcropping. Although the name of the town might suggest a rather unpleasant place (grand marais means the big swamp in French), there’s no hint of swamps in the area.

The harbor is a nice place for walks, there are several hiking trails around the town, and the lake is the perfect place for swimming or fishing.

    Dillon, Colorado

Dillon is a really tiny town of less than a thousand inhabitants, but it is incredibly idyllic, and it is surrounded by amazing natural scenery. Lake Dillon looks great any time of the year, but especially in spring and summer when the winter snow melt flows into it, or when the woods become green.

    Rangeley, Maine

If you don’t really want to stay in a town and you’d rather spend your time wandering the wilderness, then Rangeley might just be the best place for your holiday.

The mountain ranges around Rangeley are absolutely breath-taking, and the lake itself is a great place to be in summer – you can water-ski, jet-ski, and go tubing.

    Truckee, California

Truckee on the shore of Donner Lake is used to be one of those western towns that you see in old movies, and it still has the old jailhouse to prove it.

The town has a few attractions, but it’s the lake that draws the most visitors to this place. One of the most popular activities on the lake is stand up paddle surfing, but there are lots of other water sports that you can do.
