Traveling solo is becoming more and more popular, and not because travelers are becoming more antisocial – on the contrary! When your friends are not inclined to long weeks of travel, it’s best not to lug them with you and listen to them complain, and just go traveling on your own!

Traveling solo is much less scary than it sounds, and you always end up meeting traveling companions for portions of your journey. Here are some solo travel destinations in South Pacific, for those travelers who want to experience the joys of traveling on their own.

Sydney, Australia

If you want to hook up with other travelers going in the same direction as you, you can start by staying at a backpacker hostel in Sydney, Australia. There are bound to be other people who are heading to the same destination as you. Besides, Sydney has enough nightlife, beaches and sights to keep you busy for more than a few days. Even as a destination on its own, Sydney will definitely not disappoint you.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Bora Bora has some of the most astoundingly beautiful beaches on the planet – they are pristine and quiet at the same time. If you want some time off to relax on your own, Bora Bora is the place to go. Here you can escape the crowds if you want, but there are plenty of opportunities for socialization too when you get tired of your own company.

Christchurch, New Zealand

Christchurch is one of the prettiest (and oldest) towns in New Zealand, even if it is not the liveliest place you can find. However, the Garden City is teeming with foreign students and travelers who come for the art, culture and festivals in the city. There are enough museums in Christchurch to fill an entire week on sightseeing.

Fraser Island, Australia

There is so much crammed into this Australian island that you’ll feel like you’ve visited ten places instead of one. Rain forests, dunes, amazing wildlife, beaches, surf spots, mangrove forests, rare plants. Fraser island can seem to be completely cut off from the inhabited world. There are few roads, few settlements and few people – it’s the ultimate nature getaway.

Samoa

Samoa is a great place for budget travelers, especially for the solo tourist who doesn’t have anyone to split bills with. Samoa is cheaper than other South Pacific islands, and it is a friendly and interesting place. You can rent a thatched hut on a beach and watch life happen around you.

Easter Island

The mystical atmosphere of the mysterious Easter Island is best enjoyed on your own, especially if you are prone to reflection. The majestic Moai are some of the most impressive archaeological relics ever found on the planet, and anyone interested in culture and history.
