Hotels built in old airplanes, in wine barrels, on wheels or hotel that come with giraffes included – these are the sort of hotels that we’ve talked about in out previous posts about the world’s weirdest hotels. But thankfully, human imagination is boundless, so there are many other hotels on the planet that more or less defy the norm.
These are not the best, most comfortable hotels in the world, nor the ones with the best service around, but one thing that you can be sure about is that they are definitely out of the ordinary. Here are some more of the weirdest hotels in the world.
La Villa Hamster, Nantes, France
Ever wondered what it feels like to be cooped up in a cage for your entire life? Well, you can try it out yourself, for a night or two. The owners of this hotel in Nantes, an interior designer and a businessman have either a strong liking for small rodents, or an unhealthy dose of sadism.
The hotel looks a bit like a giant cage with wrought iron wall, you can drink water out of a tube, and of course, there will be a huge hamster wheel in your room too (in case you want to work out). Other than that, the rooms are very nice. Website: http://www.uncoinchezsoi.net/#/villes/nantes/la_villa_hamster/
Can Sleep, Lake Skanderborg, Denmark
Do you love beer so much that you wish you didn’t have to part with your favourite beverage when you’re sleeping? In that case, your dream can come true in this Danish hotel, where you can sleep in…beer cans. You have to plan your trip carefully, though, because the hotel is sadly open only one month of the year, in August, during the Skanderborg Music Festival. So you can drink beer by day, and sleep in it at night. And guess what you’ll find in the minibar in each room? That’s right, beer.
Hotel Kakslauttanen, Finland
If you plan on spending your holiday close to the North Pole, here’s a good accommodation tip: Hotel Kakslauttanen, with the unpronounceable name. At this resort, you can stay in igloos, which is pretty cool in itself, but if you want more than that, you can rent a glass igloo.
Not because you want your neighbours to see you in your jammies, but so that you can see the Aurora Borealis at night. If you thought that watching the stars from your bed is amazing, try the northern lights.

If you are an animal lover, this hotel will make you go ‘aww’ every five seconds. It is located next to the largest sanctuary for rescued elephants in the world, and everything in the rooms is elephant themed. Even the hotel employees who carry your bags are riding elephants. And if you really like the art in your room, don’t forget to thank the elephants – because they are the ones who did the paintings!
