    Budapest

    Budapest

The capital of Hungary, Budapest, is a city doesn’t actually require a lot of information. A simple panoramic picture of Budapest is enough to determine you to pack your bags and take the first plane there. With a scenic display of historic buildings and palaces along the shores of the Danube River, a rich cultural inheritance and a legendary nightlife, Budapest is a must on the list of European attractions.

A good thing about Budapest is that the city’s historic center is quite compact, so it’s won’t take you more than two days to finish up with all the sightseeing you had in mind. But we all know that each city has its hidden treasures: a fancy restaurant, a bohemian cafe, a higher point that reveals an unexpected panorama of the city can become the cherry on top. Whether you will get to see Budapest by land, by water or descend into the city’s undergrounds, you have to know exactly what you’re looking for.  You can find Budapest’ most popular sights described in this Budapest Travel Guide, but if you’re willing to search deeper and discover more, here are some suggestions:

Take a boat ride on the Danube

A trip on the river might as well be the starting point of your trip. Not only you get the chance to admire the Budapest skyline, the Baroque palaces and beautiful bridges in their full splendor, but you can also listen to the tour guide’s description and decide what you want to visit. There are nice quays along the Danube, several islands, and let’s not forget that the Danube is where everything started. When people started building bridges over the Danube and reunite the two historic cities of Buda and Pest, a magnificent new city was born.

    Go underground

By going underground I don’t mean take the subway (although it is a fast and reliable way to go around), but try to visit the vine cellars in the 22 district. You will be amazed by this labyrinth of cellars, filled with most renowned Hungarian wines. You can visit the cellars for free and join a series of concerts and wine tasting sessions during the Budafok Champagne and Wines Festival.

Get a room with a view

If you’re willing to pay a little extra but live like a king, the best choice would be to make a reservation at the Gresham Palace Hotel. This way you will be able to enjoy all the comfort and benefits of one of the best luxury hotels in Europe and literally have Budapest at your feet (many of the hotel rooms have balconies overlooking the river and the Parliament building).

    Explore the surroundings

If you’re in Budapest for more than a weekend, than it really pays visiting the surrounding Budapest hills. Here you can hike, take photos, enjoy the clean air, and, if you’re in an adventurous mood, take your chances and go into the air. There are three ways to do it: by paragliding, hang gliding or renting small plane. But an aerial view of Budapest and its picturesque hills is worth any risk, I’d say…
