Las Vegas, the Sin City, is one of those cities that are so well known thanks to movies and books that people feel like they know all there is to know about them even when they visit them for the first time. However, every big city has its secrets, and discovering little hidden things about Vegas can be difficult if you don’t know where to look.
scaA small cafe known only to locals, some interesting sights overlooked by tourist brochures or simply some weird or funny facts about Vegas can make your trip a much more enjoyable experience. So here are the top 10 things that you didn’t know about Vegas – so that you’ll have an unforgettable holiday!
Casinos – one of the main parts of your Vegas experience
There are no clocks in any of the casinos in Vegas. This might be an attempt on the part of casino owners to keep you there for as long as they can, or it might simply mean that time stands still in Vegas, especially if you’re having a lucky night!!
Las Vegas is a huge city with almost 2 million inhabitants, but did you know that there is a slot machine for every eight people in the city? And on the subject of gambling: only about 5% of people who visit Vegas say that they are going to try their luck in a casino, and almost 90% of them end up gambling in the end (so don’t fight the urge, just know your limits).
Gambling and cheating is a major theme in movies set in Vegas, but tourists are not the ones who are most inclined to cheat. Actually, 34% of all casino thefts are done by the staff. So don’t feel uncomfortable if the bodyguards are eying you throughout the evening, because they do the same to people who work there as well!
Weddings
The average number of weddings taking place in Vegas every day is over 300. That makes Vegas the second city in the world when it comes to marriages per day, second only to Istanbul. And Vegas is probably the only vity in the world where you can get married at a drive-through window.
And if being pronounced husband and wife by a priest is too traditional for you, you can opt for Elvis, Spock or other celebrities. And while getting married in Vegas will cost you only $30-40, don’t think about getting a divorce here, because it costs at least 10 times more!
