Are you planning on visiting Asia anytime in the future? When thinking about tours that will take your through most parts of a continent, it’s really difficult to pick the most essential destinations. Asia is one big continent, so it’s so surprise that there should be quite a lot of things there that a visitor might want to see.

And while the more attractions the better, it can be really annoying when you travel somewhere and just can’t decide what to see first, and how to organize your time so that you manage to see all the important places. To help you, here’s our list of top ten places to see in Asia.

Tokyo, Japan

What I personally like about Tokyo is that it manages to combine an almost futuristic technology with traditional elements, like shrines, temples or festivals. One week is not enough to see all of what Tokyo has to offer, but if you want to get the jist of the city, visit the Asakusa Shrine, Harajuku District and a museum or two.

Vladivostok, Russia

If you are traveling with the Trans-Siberian, Vladivostok will be the terminus of the journey. As a tourist destination, it is somewhat overlooked, despite the fact that it has several interesting attractions.

It is sometimes called the San Francisco of Russia, because its hilly and steep streets.

Ulan Bator, Mongolia

When it comes to Mongolia, you absolutely have to visit the steppes, but the capital should rank just as high on your list. Ulan Bator seems like Mongolia in a nutshell, especially since a third o the population lives there. To tell the truth, the charm of Ulan Bator lies not in the way it looks like (it is distinctively drab), but the people and the atmosphere.

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is famous for being Asia’s nightlife capital, but there’s a rich cultural heritage to this city as well. There are countless Buddhist (and other) temples in the city, and the Buddha statues are especially interesting. Visit the Reclining Buddha Temples (a major attraction), and don’t forget about Erawan Shrine and the adjacent snake farm.

Bako National Park, Borneo, Malaysia

If you’ve ever dreamt about walking thought a mangrove forest when watching nature documentaries, you can do just that at Bako National Park. It is one of the smallest parks in Borneo, but the variety of the wildlife, the streams, waterfalls and secluded beaches make it well worth seeing.

Manila, Philippines

Before WWII, Manila was seen as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Unfortunately, it suffered a great deal of damage during the war, and while it has never regained its former elegance, it is a very interesting place even now. It looks like a South American city more than an Asian one.

Kerala, India

India is a very diverse country, and it’s impossible to pinpoint just one must see destination, but if you ask me, I’d vote for Kerala.

This region looks like a tropical paradise, complete with palm trees gently swaying in the breeze and sandy beaches. There are several amazing villages in Kerala which are just perfect for ecotourism.

Shanghai, China

With a population so large as the entire population of come countries, Shanghai is one of the most developed and attractive cities in mainland China. Shanghai is a very interesting mix of Eastern and Western (there are actually many Tudor style buildings in the city).

Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Yogyakarta is one of the most popular destinations in Indonesia, and certainly the most popular one on the island of Java. It is the cultural and educational capital of Indonesia, and being also the oldest one, it is full of wonderful historical buildings.

Lao PDR (Lao People’s Democratic Republic) is jokingly known as Laos – Please Don’t Rush, because there’s no country more laid back in the world. While other Asian countries are characterized as vibrant or bustling, Laos is sleepy and very charming. Luang Prabang, the former Laotian capital, conforms to this norm, but it is also filled with the most amazing temples you’ll ever see.

Hi Baghavat,
I do not know for which city you are departing, so I have searched for flights from New York and from Los Angeles.

1. From New York City the cheapest flight is with Air India for $987 round-trip. It departs from JFK Airport on June 3 and returns from Delhi on June 25. Only return flight has got 1 stop in Mumbai.

2. From Los Angeles the cheapest airfare is a Virgin Atlantic flight for $1178 r/t. It leaves LA on June 3 as well and returns from Delhi on June 25.
