  • Where to party in Bangkok

Bangkok at nightBangkok has some amazing cultural attractions for the intrepid tourist: the Old City is full of palaces, temples and museums, and you’ll never be bored for a second during the day. But at night, when the ‘traditional’ attractions are closed, what can one do in the city? Well, plenty, seeing as Bangkok is probably the most cosmopolitan city in South Asia, and maybe even beyond. Not only is Bangkok the country’s political, cultural and economic centre, but also the place where you will find the most nightclubs, bars and pubs in Thailand.

Some basic information before you go off partying in Bangkok, aside from the regular things like turning off your electrical devices, checking your home insurance and such like. The nightlife here is notoriously wild, but due to recent regulations, some places close at 1 AM. But that doesn’t stop the locals from having a good time, so it shouldn’t stop you either. It’s good to have your ID on you at all times, and try not to get lost in dark or secluded streets (there are plenty of great nightspots on the beaten track).

Suan Lum BangkokMost of the city’s liveliest  (and legitimate) nightclubs are located in the district of Silom, with its skyscrapers and expensive shops. During the night, the district loosens its tie and becomes quite laid back and entertaining. Beware of Patpong alley (where several famous go-go bars are located) if that is not what you’re looking for.

There are plenty of places catering for all musicals tastes and budgets. Clubs such as Vertigo and Sirocco are very nice looking and they attract a fashionable crowd, but they are quite expensive.

Khao San Road BangkokIf you are looking for affordable bar where you can simply relax, you should head out to Khao San Road, where many of the local youth are usually congregating. However, if your tastes run higher, but you’d still like a youthful environment, try out Ratchadaphisek, where there are tons of trendy music pubs and some large dance clubs. Several clubs are targeted mainly towards teens and twenty-somethings, and they are generally great places for get familiar with Thai music.

    Bangkok by night

Bangkok is a great place for live music, and many of the best venues are grouped in Sukhumvit district. Classy jazz joints and dimly lit blues bars are plentiful, as well as lots of indie and rock oriented places.

This district is frequented by many expats and tourists, and most locales have acquired a distinctly western feel. The bars and pubs don’t stay open until late, and they mostly offer ‘western’ food and drink, but they are the perfect place to simply relax, or get you started for a night of dancing in another part of the town, for example.
