While some of us like to spend their holidays relaxing on a beach, exploring unknown places and discovering cultures and peoples, for others a holiday is an excellent opportunity to pump up their adrenaline levels to insane quotas. Extreme sports are a means of disconnecting yourself from day-to-day life for some, but others live for the excitement and never miss the chance to jump, fly, glide or dive.
Most of the time you can combine traveling with extreme sports, and there are some great locations around the world where the extreme sport of your choice seems all the more dangerous and rewarding. So here is what you can do if you are set on taking a holiday on the edge.
Kitesurfing in Brazil
Brazil is one of the most popular places to kitesurf nowadays. It has great wind conditions and landscapes, and there are tons of other things to see and do when you’re not kitesurfing. Jericoacoara Beach, in the northern city of Jijoca de Jericoacoara, famous for being a top-class windsurfing and kitesurfing destinations.
Plus, it has a great nightlife and restaurants. Prea is another favourite among kitesurfers, just 15 minutes away from Jericoacoara, and lately Florianopolis, down south, is becoming a well-known kitesurfing destination as well.
Bungee jumping in Nepal
The Bhote Kosi Bungee Bridge was built especially for the delight of those who have made a passion out of jumping from high places. It’s the third highest bungee bridge in the world, and the longest bridge in Nepal. The bridge was designed by a Swiss architect, and it has all the safety measures that will keep your jump from getting too exciting.
What makes this jump interesting is the fact that the deadly Bhote Kosi is flowing right under the bridge, and when you jump you fall towards the river before being pulled up by the swing line into a semicicular arc.
Sky diving in New Zealand
New Zealand has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, and imagine how great those places look from up in the air. There are several skydive operators in New Zealand, and if you are not a newbie skydiver you can try a tandem drive (together with an experienced skydiver). A minute or so of free fall, and then a peaceful glide towards the land, surrounded by the blue skies of New Zealand? Sounds like a lot of fun.
Mountain biking in Spain
Andalucia is a must-visit for everyone who goes on holiday to Spain, there are lots of great cities to see : Granada, Seville, Cadiz..But the charm of the province is given not only by the urban areas, but also by its rugged, varied landscape. Sierra Nevada (the original one) is known for its ski resorts, but at lower altitudes in makes for some superb mountain biking trails. Unless you bike too close to a precipice, there’s not much danger of serious bodily harm, but that doesn’t mean that biking in the wilderness of Andalusian mountains doesn’t provide lots of excitement.

The best thing about Peru’s beaches is that they offer waves for every skill level. Peru has waves for beginners and for hardened surfers alike, and there are many surf spots along the coasts so it will never be too crowded.
Experienced surfers might want to try out the largest left-hand point break in the world at Mancama. Surfing has become almost like a national sport in Peru, and there have been several Peruvian world champions. Check out the surf shops scattered around the beaches and do some bargain shopping while waiting for a big wave.
